A delight at any time of the year, Trebah Garden is particularly lovely in spring.
By early March, thereโs already a riot of colour in the garden, with a variety of rhododendrons and camellias in bloom, and the golden glory of daffodils and narcissi. Their champion magnolia (the tallest of its kind in the UK) is absolutely stunning at the moment.
You can see whatโs looking good in the garden at any time on their website โ and theyโll point you in the right direction when you get there, too.
Trebah for children
If itโs appealing for adults, Trebah is a magical place for kids. Thereโs the ever-popular Paraglide, adventure play areas (Tarzanโs Camp for the bigger and Fort Stuart for the little ones), plus loads of โsecretโ passages to explore.
The tree ferns, which hide a miniature waterfall, and the leafy Gunnera Passage are great fun. Then, of course, thereโs the private beach, where you can paddle on a hot day and enjoy and ice cream. Donโt forget to look out for the creature in the pondโฆCould it be a relative of the Loch Ness Monster?
A new amphitheatre
Work started in November to build an amphitheatre in the grounds. The design is based on traditional Cornish Prayer Pits and itโs being constructed using local granite. They aim to have it ready for performances in spring/summer 2014.
Theyโve certainly picked a good location for it โ the amphitheatre looks out across the valley, offering a wonderful view of Trebahโs trees and plants. Weโre looking forward to seeing what sort of performances theyโll have to offer next year.
Dog friendly
Trebah is one of the most dog-friendly visitor attractions in Cornwall. They actively encourage visitors of the four-legged variety (youโll need to keep them on a lead in the gardens and on the beach). Theyโve got water bowls for dogs outside the Visitor Centre for thirsty pooches and offer complimentary poop scoops to dog owners on arrival. There are also four dog waste bins in the garden.
Accessibility
Trebah has clearly marked disabled-friendly routes (also useful for people with pushchairs/buggies). For more information on access or to reserve a motorised buggy, give them a call on 01326 252200.
