Introducing Lowen, our new eco-cottage

Eco house with solar panels on the roof located at Bosinver in Cornwall

It won’t be long now till Lowen, our new eco-build, is ready to welcome its first guests.

The team’s busy putting the finishing touches to the property, and we’re getting really excited about welcoming the first guests.

About Lowen

Lowen’s a zero carbon, energy self-sufficient house. It uses energy from the sun and ground to provide electricity, heating and hot water to the house (as well as sending surplus electricity back to the grid).

It’s been built using straw bales, a variety of reclaimed materials, (including the huge timber beams that are a focal point of the property, which came from the old St Lawrence’s Hospital in Bodmin), and some exciting modern technology!

To find out more about how we built it and the materials we used, take a look at our ‘Building Lowen’ blog. You can see our weekly updates along with descriptions and of photographs of different stages of the build.

Decor, furnishings and fittings

Lowen’s been decorated and furnished to a very high standard in keeping with the ‘Bosinver style’. We don’t have photos of what it’s like inside just yet, but we’ll be posting them on the website soon, so watch this space…

Where possible, all the furnishings are eco-friendly and/or recycled and locally sourced. The décor includes artwork and furniture by Cornish artists and craftspeople. And we haven’t even mentioned the cows yet…

It’s hard to describe the feeling you get when you walk into Lowen. Words don’t do it justice – you really have to see it. It’s earthy and organic, almost as if it might have grown out of the ground. It’s this feeling that inspired Pat in terms of the décor. “Mother Nature’s brilliant at putting colours together. She’s done it already, so just I’ve borrowed her palate.”
