Farm Animals at Bosinver

Imagine a scene from "The Darling Buds of May", and you're here at Bosinver. Our chickens and ducks wander around the farm cottages during the day and guests soon learn to keep their front doors closed or risk having them for company in the kitchen! They're as tame as can be and will eat out of your hand (just like Dave!). Fresh free range eggs from the farm taste like no other egg you can buy and you can get them here.

Sheep at Bosinver Farm Cottages

The sheep Vanilla, Snowdrop, Freckle and Big Ears will never have to worry about mint sauce. They've spent their entire lives here munching grass, lying in the sun and looking decorative. They also eat from your hand but are terrified of Chalky when he is practising to be a sheepdog. Friendly sheep The wild animals Obviously do not have names but our residents include; otters, deer, badgers, rabbits, foxes, weasels, field mice, toads, frogs, newts, slowworms, buzzards, barn owls, kingfishers to name but a few and many species of garden birds live happily here amongst our wonderful gardens where there are no cats!

Chalky

Chalky is our much loved Pygmy goat. He's full of character and quite famous, having starred in many home videos (one posted on the web giving details of 'The Notorious Goat Incident') and photo shoots here on the farm. His skills include tree climbing (where he sits most of the day overseeing the site) scaffold climbing, towing children around the farm on a lead and making a lot of noise if nobody is paying him attention.

Our Pygmy Goat, Chalky!

He has a fan club and his photo sits in many a school locker or under a desk lid. In the winter he becomes an honorary duck or chicken and wanders through the site accompanied by various poultry. His favourite food is digestive biscuits, so parents be warned!

The Horses

Secret is grey and fat with short legs and a smile. He's a typical Thelwell pony and believes his sole purpose in life is to eat. He's got a lovely nature, loves carrots and apples and is good at kissing.

Horses at Bosinver Farm Cottages

Lovejoy and Tinker are the Shire horses. They belong to a neighbouring farmer but live here most of the year. They are also stars of local ploughing matches and many carnivals where they appear resplendent in harness, horse brasses, feathers and much adornment thanks to hours of hard work by Alfie and Lynn.
