If youโre planning your summer holiday to Cornwall, you might want to think about adding a festival to your list of things to do. There are plenty of family friendly festivals in Cornwall which offer a range of childrenโs entertainment and activities as well as a huge variety of local food and drink, live music and more.
We sent Nanny Pat out and about to investigate. One of the first festivals she visited with her grandchildren was Rock Oyster Festival. Donโt be put off if you donโt like oysters โ thereโs lots more on offer!
Hereโs what Nanny Pat had to say: โRock Oyster Festival is a great little day out but needs fine weather as site is quite exposed. There are glorious view across one of the loveliest river valleys, the Camel Estuary, which is tidal with mud flats which attract lots of wading birds.โ
โThe highlight of the day was watching Swamp Circus, a local troupe of artistes who juggled fire, did acrobatic displays on tightropes and generally clowned around. It was so exciting for little ones to see them close up and in the flesh โ they were wide-eyed and transfixed throughout the performance!โ
The location of the festival is an added bonus, as thereโs plenty of room to roam. After trying some of the culinary treats on offer, Nanny Pat and the kids went off to explore the shoreline and found an exciting path back through the woods โ including a slide hidden amongst the trees just waiting to be tried out!
Getting there
Rock Oyster Festival takes places at Dinham House, Nr Wadebridge, Cornwall, PL27 6RH, which is approximately 45 minutesโ drive from Bosinver.
This yearโs Rock Oyster Festival takes place on Saturday 12 July. The programme is still being added to, so itโs worth checking the festival website to find out more.
Have you ever been to a festival as a family during your holiday in Cornwall? Weโd love to hear about which festival you went to and what you thought of it. And if youโve got any ideas about where we should send Nanny Pat next, let us know!
