Happy New Year to you all.
We have just waved farewell to the last of the New Year guests and start 2007 in building, spring cleaning and decorating mode.
The festive season is usually busy and this year was no exception – a general balancing of the demands of home and family and those of our guests. It is quite easy to lose enthusiasm for decorating our Christmas tree at home after hanging baubles on 19 at work! Everyone seemed to have a good time this year and there were the usual rounds of partying and long coastal walks, board games and too much food!
We had a major panic just before Christmas when we received a monthly water bill for £10,000! We had no idea why it should be so high and being on a water meter we were responsible. A phone call to a good friend who is an expert leak detector (everyone should have one!) and he came and located a massive leak (lake proportions) happily running into an underground channel and straight to our stream. As the pipe is old and has had small leaks in the past we decided to replace it all so in the wettest week of the year so far a digger arrived and turned half the site into a scene from the battle of the Somme. Good friends also turned up with shovels and cups of tea to help and miraculously we managed to get it all done before the Christmas guests arrived.
No big building projects on the cottages this year, just the usual decorating, refurbishment and upgrading. The main focus is creating a play barn aimed at our under 5’s and their parents. It is a traditional stone and slate barn in the field near Pentree with a south facing glass wall looking out over the countryside. Inside will be soft play equipment, an indoor sand pit, sofas for parents to relax in and some gym equipment for the exercise enthusiasts. It will be ready for Easter 2007.
I hope most of you have visited the website and noticed that in November we were awarded ‘Self Catering Establishment of the Year’ in the Cornwall Tourism Awards for the second year running and bronze for our website. We also attained silver in the SW Excellence Awards for the 7 SW counties. Thank you to everyone who voted for us – Dave and I, Helen and all the team here at Bosinver are duly proud of our achievements and we will strive to make it even better in 2007.
We look forward to welcoming many of our previous visitors back for a return visit this year but if you are booking for the first time, beware – Bosinver is addictive and seems to lure people back for more of its magic.
One of them even wrote in the Visitors’ Book
"If you could bottle ‘Essence of Bosinver’ you could make a fortune!"
