Spring is on it's way

Hello everyone. Hope you are all keeping your New Year resolutions???!!!
Christmas and New Year seem long gone with the only reminder being the masses of bills to pay and a photo of the snowman we built outside the office.

We had a very busy time with the cottages full and 14 members of our own family to stay. The weather was very kind and a good time beachcombing and coast walking was had by all. Even the animals got into the festive spirit as this picture of Secret will endorse.

We had some sad events in December with the loss of both Ricky and Fred, our two old horses. Fred had been our children’s pony and we reckon he was about 40 – he just went to sleep and didn’t wake up. Poor Ricky had a bout of colic and twisted his stomach – he died before the vet could get here. Secret was terribly upset and pined for them both – we telephoned around and have borrowed a pony from the local riding school called Dustbin – he looks just like Secret and they get on really well.
Spring cleaning and decorating are in full swing now – minor building alterations and improvements were done between November and Christmas – we had some tarmac laid and Dave couldn’t resist a go on the roller.

The feedback we had from our awards photo in the last newsletter was ‘Is that really Farmer Dave? We don’t recognise him in smart clothes!’ - so I have included a photo of him in his best work clothes to reassure you all. He is now busy with the rebuilding of Pentree. We are extending it and have totally gutted the inside so it will be more in the style of Hydrangea and Buddleia. Interestingly enough, behind the rendered façade we found an old stone barn, so are trying to preserve as much of the character as we can.

We had quite a surprise last Wednesday when one of the bantams presented us with 6 fluffy chicks, we knew she was sitting somewhere but hadn’t found the nest and in all the cold and frosty weather she sat tight and kept them warm – Mother Nature never ceases to amaze us!

The snowdrops are peeping out of the ferns down the lane and the camellias are braving the cold as is the mimosa outside Jack’s Barn and the first daffodils are out down the entrance drive, so spring is just around the corner.
I am off on another adventure. This time it is cycling from John O Groats to Lands End in April to raise money for a CT head scanner for the A&E department of the Royal Cornwall Hospital at Truro. We have been training since November and are now up to 25 miles a day with a couple of longer rides of up to 50 miles twice a week. It is 1000 miles in total and we are hoping to take 2-3 weeks to do it. If anyone would like to read more, we have a website www.end2endgirls.co.uk and even better, if you would like to pledge some money to the cause, there is a form on the site to do just that.

Well, I must dash off and get on my bike………………………

Speak to you soon.

Pat
