Cornwall Walking & Running

There are few people who can fail to be inspired by the breathtaking scenery along the coastline of Cornwall, no matter what the weather or the time of year.

There are walks to suit all ages and abilities, from casual afternoon strolls with the whole family along sandy beaches and hidden coves to treks along the rugged cliffs and rocky outcrops of the coastpath.

You will be overwhelmed with scenes that unfold before you, whether you're on quaysides, along river valleys, walking up the tree lined avenues of the great houses or beachcombing on deserted winter beaches with spume and sea spray blowing off the crashing Atlantic rollers alongside you.

We even have a boot and coat drying room!

Coastal walks

From Bosinver there are several footpaths into the surrounding countryside around the village of Polgooth. You can walk for 3 miles down the Pentewan Trail to the sea and from there along the coastpath to Mevagissey or Porthpean. For the brave hearted, there is a 26 mile coast to coast walk called The Saint's Way which links Padstow and Fowey. At Bosinver we have walking, jogging and running maps with route instructions available in the office.

These links provide additional information when walking in Cornwall, destinationcornwall or the Ramblers website. Guided tours are available by arrangement through Active-8.

Woodland Walk

Everyone loves our trail. It does a circuit of the farm and meanders its way past the pond and through the wetland area via an elevated walkway which is a copy of an ancient style developed to cross the Somerset levels.

We have hidden lots of animals for children to find and all completed search sheets will win a prize.

Running

Whether you're after a gentle jog or something a bit more challenging, Cornwall has lots to offer runners. At Bosinver, you'll find a treadmill and crosstrainer in our gym, and you can try out our fitness trail in our woods.  There are lots of quiet country lanes nearby, and you can get  maps and directions of some of our favourite routes in the office.

Only a mile and a half away from Bosinver, the Pentewan Valley Trail follows the bed of an old narrow gauge railway from the village of London Apprentice to the harbour at Pentewan.  The railway was originally built in the 19th century to transport clay from the china clay pits in St Austell to the docks for export.

Pentewan Valley is the perfect place to walk, jog, or run. There are miles of safe, child and dog-friendly trails and some great spots for mountain bikers to explore in King's Wood.  If you haven't brought your own, Pentewan Valley Cycle Hire has a range of bikes available.

When you reach Pentewan, Ship Inn is a great place to stop for lunch. It's small, friendly pub with tables overlooking the waterfront  - so you can enjoy the view as well as your lunch.

If you'd prefer to run with a group, St Austell Running Club welcomes visitors.  They go out on Tuesday and Thursday evenings at 6.30pm.  For more infomation, call Andy Trudgian on 01726 815255. Andy runs Personal Best, a running, fitness and athlectic store in St Austell, so if you need any equipment or advice, he'll be able to help you out.
