Bosinver Farm Cottages Summer report

It is a fact that we British are obsessed with the weather because it is constantly changing and so variable. It seems that we are heading for extremes and constantly hear - the wettest day on record, the hottest day, snow in April and so on but I can honestly say in the 30 years that Dave and I have been in the holiday business, 2008 has produced the longest spell of wet weather with grey days so far.

Despite the poor weather our Bosinver visitors have shown true British resilience and made the most of their holidays, remaining remarkably cheerful as they packed their buckets and spades, swimming togs, and picnics together with wet suits, macs, wellies and beach tents to shelter in! Regular customers have discovered previously unvisited indoor attractions and yet again the play barn has proved a great addition, giving children the space and opportunity to let off steam when they have to stay inside.

Surprisingly the swimming pool has had a great deal of use - we have had it running at 30 degrees and some families have stayed in for hours, even in the rain as it was so warm.

All the Bosinver animals are fit and well. We have hatched out more ducks and chickens, plus some gleanies - we haven't had them before so will be interesting to see how we get on with them. The geese on the lake produced 8 goslings and they all survived and have just flown off to warmer climes for the winter. The fox caused havoc with the poultry earlier on in the year and we have had to keep them fenced in for their safety. If any one has ideas for how to keep foxes away, please let me know. I had heard that lion poo strategically placed around the enclosure was very effective but when I rang Newquay Zoo to ask for some, they said they were'nt allowed to give us any on Environmental Health grounds!!!

Angel and Lad, the 2 new shires are growing fast and proved a great hit with the children. Catherine Gordon is  making friends with Angel.

Muffin has been broken in and he is pictured here with his first rider, looking very smart

Pat had her 60th birthday in August and a surprise party was enjoyed by friends and family alike in  a marquee - we did manage some silly games and tug of war outside before the heavens opened but were warm and dry inside.

September and October are looking busy and we are all looking forward to an Indian summer and some sunshine to wave off the Tall Ships from Falmouth as they race down to Portugal on 13th September.

Don't forget that our autumn short breaks begin in October for those of who who want a quick escape or to celebrate a special birthday or anniversary.

Speak to you soon.

Pat
