Another Gold award for Bosinver Farm Cottages

We were jumping for joy in the office when we received the news that we had achieved gold status in the Green Tourism Awards. The scheme sets high targets for businesses to demonstrate Sustainable Business Practice and to communicate their ethos to their guests and with over 120 measures to score on, we did not dream that we could achieve gold at our first attempt. Many of our regular guests know we are fanatical about recycling but most probably do not see the level of commitment to support local businesses, save energy, insulate our farm cottages and all the other little things we do that add up to a lot! We are now inspected every 2 years and have to demonstrate improvements at each inspection so challenges lie ahead!

We recently had a visit from a group of Mums and toddlers from London. There were 8 Mums and 13 toddlers and babies. They hired 3 cottages and came on the train. The logistics were amazing, just to entertain them all for a 4 hour train journey, to bring the luggage, organise taxis and arrive sane was quite an achievement. They stayed for 3 days over the May day holiday weekend and had a great time, knowing that there was lots here for them to do without any form of transport. They spent hours in the play barn, the swimming pool, did the woodland walk, had their groceries delivered and had meals for all 3 days from our local chef. They proved conclusively that you can travel to Cornwall with children WITHOUT A CAR!!!!

We have some new additions at Bosinver Farm Cottages. The Canada geese on the lake have produced 8 goslings and they are growing fast and seem to have escaped the fox, unlike some of our hens and sadly both Rodney and Custard, our cockerels have succumbed to him. Two new shire horses have appeared, both sons of Diamond, the grey mare we had for a while. They are called Angel and Lad and look very graceful as they graze out in the meadows in front of Well Close cottage.

We are very busy now until the middle of September. Whitsun week flew by with many old friends returning. 17 of the 19 farm cottages had families who had been before, some 12 times and more, with youngsters now at University but insisting that their Bosinver holiday is fixed in their yearly calendar and are coming back next year for more!

The gardens are looking lovely but they need lots of attention at this time of year so I must get out and attend to them.

Speak soon,

Pat
